This year I was not disappointed at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco. Its always exciting to sell some art, meet new fans, and discuss my work with the public but what I generally get the most out of is the networking opportunities. There are so many talented and inspiring artists there that help me further my perspective on the bay's independent art landscape.
The problem is, APE has been expanding each year which means I am unable to take the time I'd want to, to visit all other booths. I hate leaving my table so I tried my best to circulate in a timely fashion though I know I missed a lot of great stuff. Still, there was no shortage of exceptional art and positive vibes all around.
I had a great time hanging out with my other table neighbors; the wonderfully talented Jen Tong, who is well known for her psychedelic, one of a kind prints (www.jentong.com) and Steven Gomez who was no stranger to the insights of religion in art (www.sgconceptz.com) .
"One of the best things about APE is that if you get a half table, you end up sharing it with a random exhibitor like a Iron Chef secret ingredient."
Spotlight: Teddy Hose
I've been pretty lucky in the past but this year I was so pleased to share my table with probably the only other half japanese comic artist at APE, Teddy Hose. Teddy's comics are witty and insightful and for any asian americans out there, a home run. His characters are both endearing and funny alongside his natural story-telling abilities. His hilarious webcomic is called "Oscillating Profundities". One of my favorite works of his (below on left) was featured by the Huffington Post, Laughing Squid as well as Mashable.
